Underground Bristol-based visual artist and music producer A. Whales has has impressed since joining up with Asta Hiroki's Folded Music imprint last year.
After a clutch of self releases he showcased his production aptitude immediately on the label via a host of original electronica and ambient breaks compositions on the fantastically conceptual 'Greater Than' EP, which racked up hundreds of spins on respected French radio station FIP, and won a spot in the coveted Spotify editorial playlist 'Brain Food'.
He now returns with the lofi house influenced 'Coasting' EP - a 3 track dance manifesto of modern, high quality club-focused beats.
It's packed with fuzzy around the edges synths, overdriven drums, and distant emotive vocals, showing enough variation and musical intrigue to keep cerebral music fans listening whilst still firmly remaining a dance release.
Explaining more behind the creation of the collection:
"I spent a lot of time trying to find a balance between ridiculously distorted house rhythms and these emotional chords and samples, being overly emotional can come off a bit cheap and that was one of the main reasons a bunch of them got scrapped. Most of the demos never fully develop into something I’m happy with, but before moving on from them, I saved any rhythms, melodies and textures that stood out.
